The Stray~Wind™ vertical axis generator is similar to some other designs out there. They rotate on a vertical shaft and have airfoil (delta-wing) blades. But, there are some specific advantages unique to our Stray~Energy version.

We believe there is no better, more practical method to capture kinetic energy of the moving atoms in the wind.

Key Features
bullet High efficiency and low start speed even in turbulent and shifting urban winds.

bullet Only one moving part for virtually maintenance free and nearly silent operation.

bullet Simple design doesn't need complicated mechanical braking or feathering systems.

bullet Composite over stainless steel tubing wings and spokes for safe operation in high wind conditions.

bullet Heavy duty weather sealed roller bearings should never need lubrication.

bullet High pole count generator uses strong magnets to work effectively at all speeds.

bullet Copper wound stator coils are encapsulated for heat and weather protection.

bullet Single spoke rotor and narrow high strength mast minimizes air flow interference.

bullet Only one AC output connection is needed between the turbine and power controller.

bullet Integrated dynamic out-of-balance eddy shutdown system with manual stop and reset.
Vertical Wind
The first generator is designed to deliver 1200 watts continuous, and up to 2500 watts intermittently (depending on the wind). With a diameter of 2 meters and wing length of 2 meters, it has a swept area of 4 square meters. Wings are driven though over 80% of rotation including front side and backside wind. Future models of similar design will range from a smaller 600 watts generator, up to 2400 watts and higher. They rely on highly effective aerodynamics to grab and redirect wind in one direction, for a high thrust rotational force. The rotation is converted to electrical current by a long-life permanent magnet generator designed to produce power efficiently at a wide range of RPMs. Details
